People Share The Reasons They Accidentally Went Viral For A Hot Minute
Some people spend their whole lives chasing their 15 seconds of fame while others seem to trip into the spotlight without even trying.
Social media has proven it can make or break a person based on their viral moment and the people below are perfect examples of what happens when the internet decides to run with something.
Gorilla Glue Girl
If you don't remember Tessica Brown and her Gorilla Glue hair fiasco, you must have been offline for a few months straight.

Tessica's hairspray mishap captivated the internet and put the poor woman into medical distress.
The Glue Sat On Her Hair Like A Plastic Helmet
After applying Gorilla Glue spray to her hair in a last-minute desperate moment, Tessica found that the glue hardened into a plastic-like shell that wouldn't break down with any products or cleaning.

She was comical about the ordeal at first but revealed that her hair had been hard as a rock for a month.
She Had To Undergo A Lengthy Procedure
In a series of videos uploaded to TikTok, Tessica detailed her exhausting (and expensive) ordeal to recover her scalp.

Thankfully, a cosmetic surgeon volunteered to perform a procedure on Tessica to help her recover her hair. The procedure took over four hours and should have cost around $12,600 if the doctor hadn't been willing to perform the procedure for free.
She's Still Healing But Wishes She Never Shared The Video
Tessica told Vox that she wishes that she never posted the original TikTok video based on the attention it's gained her, going as far as having her procedure filmed for TMZ.

She also highlighted how the overwhelming amount of negative and hateful comments have been especially damaging to her and other black women. Though she's thankful she got the help she needed through social media, it's an ordeal she could have lived without.
Crying Dancing TikTok Girl
This sad dancing girl took TikTok by storm near the end of 2019, and she still lives rent-free on the internet in some places.

She quickly became a meme across multiple platforms with people everywhere feeling like they could relate to having to participate in something they don't have the right mindset for.
"Tell Me You're Gay Without Telling Me You're Gay"
A man named Tim recalled how he went viral for a clip that was taken by his friend during a little party.

The text on the video says, "Tell me you're gay without telling me you're gay..." before cutting to a video of Tim entering the room and dramatically slipping on an area rug. The noise he lets out mid-slip is arguably the best part.
This Sea Lion Who Understood The Photo Assignment
It's clear that this sea lion knows how to steal the spotlight. After noticing that the woman was posing with her tongue out, the sea lion went ahead and did the exact same thing.

TikTok user @val.trovato shared the video online where the sea lion helped her secure viral status.
The Woman Who Accidentally Tweeted Her Way Into A Mask Debate
Earlier in the pandemic (September 2020), this Twitter user made a hilarious tweet to her small follower base that was mostly made up of friends and a few random internet strangers.

Unfortunately, the tweet went insanely viral and she ended up being the target for people to respond and share their conflicting opinions about COVID-19 mask mandates. The original user ended up muting the responses to the tweet but over a year later it still gets interaction.
Scumbag Steve From Boston Was Exposed By His Mom
If you remember "Scumbag Steve," you may be old enough to have had a Myspace account.

The teen's photo went viral when he was in high school and his mom shared the image on the right where it quickly gained legendary meme status on Tumblr, Myspace, and Reddit. He basically became the poster boy for trashy white dudes because everyone seemed to know one.
Office Printers Are A Hot Topic Of Debate
TikTok user Annalisa Heppner said in a video, "I didn't expect this tweet to go viral," and that her original tweet was a "very mild take on office equipment."

But the Twitterverse decided her tweet was bigger than that and she received thousands of responses from people who had opinions.
People Had No Idea How To Feel About The Printer Discussion
One response from Twitter told her to "just be an adult and buy a printer." Harsh.

When Annalisa shared her story on TikTok, she got some viral heat there too and her video was viewed nearly half a million times where people left comments that ranged from supportive to condescending.
Overly Attached Girlfriend Is Legendary
The overly attached girlfriend seemed to be every teen boy's worst nightmare at some point. She became a meme sensation that came with good and bad for the real girl behind the deadpan stare.

Laina ended up having a long and complicated relationship with her YouTube fame that eventually led to her "breaking up with YouTube" in an emotional 2019 video.
Kombucha Girl
Brittany Tomlinson became the collective face of indecision when she posted this TikTok clip showing her trying kombucha for the first time.

She quickly gained social media notoriety as "Kombucha Girl."
Brittany Got The Full Meme Treatment (And Still Gets It Years Later)
The memes began flowing in on multiple social media platforms and Brittany leveraged the attention to build her brand.

As an aspiring stand-up comedian, going viral on TikTok to build an audience is one of the best things that could have happened to her as a creator. Brittany now boasts over 6 million followers on TikTok alone and regularly updates for her followers.
Magician Gets Out Of Speeding Ticket
A clip shared on YouTube showed a traffic stop by police officers and a man named Steven who performed an impressive "magic" trick in order to get out of his speeding ticket.

He was lucky that night but even luckier because as Steven later explained on Reddit, he went from "being a mostly local performer" to landing some national gigs. The video gave him some "amazing opportunities."
White People In The Summer Problems
This post shared to Reddit brought back an old viral memory of these stereotypical white people who did not take the UV rating seriously south of the border.

Apparently, if you search white people in the summer problems these two will still come up, and so will all of the comments people have made about them. Ouch, for so many reasons.
